Course Date 11th March 2012

With a recent development I have the opportunity to offer a 1 day workshop on the south coast of NSW. The one day workshop will be held between Jervis Bay through to Batemans Bay. The worksop is limited to just 3 people to maximise the time I can send with each person. We start shooting before dawn and continue till mid morning until the light becomes too harsh when we will move onto post production.

I will show you exactly how I do my post production from raw file images all the way through to final print and special insight on how I prepare my files for websites. We will then once the light softens in the afternoon move to shooting in the afternoon as well as the golden hour of sunset. This will conclude our day and your time learning as much as you can from myself.

What you need to bring is a DSLR camera, tripod and if possible a lap top with at least Photoshop CS3.

I will provide a lunch and light refreshments throughout the day as well as transport during the course. The course is limited to just 3 people so as I can best spend quality time with each person. The one day course fee is $395. If interested please email myself at info@spoolphotography.com … Course Date 11th March 2012
And if you are not in NSW and want to do a workshop with myself, I have dates for a Victoria class coming very soon

First up thanks once again to all those nice people that have purchased a print from myself over the last month, its folks like you that keep this site alive and enable me to venture out and capture those moments we are sometimes in our busy lives just too busy to see.

My next up to blog is a simple image I took in the winter of 2010 between winter storms along the southern coastline of Western Australia. I chose a square composition for this shot as i had taken plenty of panoramics of the area and was looking for a more intimate shot of the location …

Now available on the website “A Winters Sunrise” in many sizes or email/call me for your custom size requirement …

While I have seen hundreds of images from Mono Lake and I took hundreds as well with the few hours I had there as well most I find have a similar tone unless shot in winter. I remember taking this well past sunset when a majority of the crowds had left for the day. With just a few photographers scattered around the shoreline we pretty much had the place to ourselves bar the howling coyotes in the distance.

I had taken several images before this series of images and was still looking for the right angle and time for the perfect shot. Mono Lake itself is a huge area and lies below sea level so the water is very salty and only really home to brine shrimp, flies and migratory birds that come to feed on the flies and shrimp ( yuk )

I am looking to having this printed at around 60-65 inches and mounted for my own home, maybe in my study or lounge …

The image can be printed up to around 70 inches in length and is available through the website page here : Mono Lake ….

Recently I had a request for a size of image I do not normal do. The client wanted the image to be a certain size and aspect ratio. After a couple of attempts at finding the right size and ratio we settles on 70 inches by 40 inches. Sending the file off to print I was a little nervous about the size. While everything looked good on the monitors, one still has a little reservation on printing this large until the final product is seen and inspected.

Well after printing I was very happy with the result, and then onto the framing, again nervous about size and type of frame that would be used. Earlier today I was able to see the final product before delivery to the client and I must say the size and scope of the print and subject matter was stunning and while I am always hesitant to pipe up and sing a little praise about my work but this time I will for a change. I think the final product from landscape photography, to the print quality from my printers and framing from the framer Chris at Leamac is as good as anything I have seen before in a landscape photography print and framing anywhere.

The clients final product ….

This was taken one evening on the way back from visiting a few waterfalls during the day and while the days shooting was not very good due to poor light, the evening was more of a success … A sunset overlooking the Australian Bush looking over towards the Pacific Ocean …

Recently I added an image to my Facebook Page that was quite a departure from my normal type of image. While I had taken the image some 2 years ago the post production was never completed for a number of reasons, one being I had a complete mental block on the image until recently … The original posting on the Facebook Page was somewhat darker in a number of areas and a few folks had mentioned that I could do with lightening up the left corner a little more … Thus leading to this posting of the new post post production of the image …

Thanks to those that helped put with the constructive critique and artistic approach of this image to enable this image to get to where it is right now … One of my favorites in recent months ….
