Lake Clifton Aerial

Recently I have had the opportunity to shoot some aerial around Perth. While I had only ever done one other aerial shoot some year earlier that was complete failure in part to lack of knowledge and seeking advice that led me in the wrong direction.

This time was a lot different. I went up with fixed wing plane with the doors off and I also sort advice from a friend I think is the best there is in the business here in Western Australia. With local knowledge and how to I was primed and ready for the experience. With the shoot lasting just over an hour I managed to come back home with around 15-20 really good images for my efforts, one of which is this stunning view of Lake Clifton and the Thrombolites that line the outer edges of the Lake Clifton.

If you are interested in the purchase of this image or any other you see on this site for photographic prints for the home and/or office or would like to enquiry about my stock imagery and commercial image shoots please do not hesitate to contact myself through the contact form on this website. All images are available or purchase directly though the website as either photographic prints of canvas prints delivered anywhere in the world at no extra cost to you.

Karijini National Park

Earlier this year I had the chance to visit Karijini National Park. While I have been there a couple of times before this was the first time I was able to get up there in the wet season. And a vastly different place it is at this time of year.

Firstly there was a cyclone that ripped through the area just north of Karijini National Park a few days before but it also left a vast amount of rain in and around Karijini, cutting off access roads and towns. If we had planned to go up 2 days earlier we would of not of been able to get through the closed access roads.

We waiting the main roads department close all the roads and reopen them slowly over the course of 3 days from the comfort of home and the Department Of Main Roads website updates …

Two days before the last of the access roads opened we set off on the 1600km drive up to Karijini National Park. Stopped off at Coral bay for a night before heading into the park.

One the best reasons to go in the wet season is the storms firing in over the land. They make for some spectacular colour to an already stunning landscape as evident below with a late afternoon summer storm that surrounded us me as I shot over the gorges below. Incredible light and stunning scenery, you cant ask for more than that …

Waking Up Inside Boranup Forest

A night spent camping in the forest in summer alone is a little creepy. It gets dark in there, really dark and as soon as the sun goes down every insert and creepy crawly and flying bug is out as well as the 1000′s of bats that live in the caves near by.

After a pretty sleepness night from all the noise and waking before dawn to pack up and find the location I wanted to shoot.. I had this idea for a type of image that showed the forest in a way I had not seen before. Having seen countless images from Boranup I wanted to attempt something different. My idea evolved through the night as ideas came and went fast, but something was sticking and that was to try and produce an image that showed the colour and depth of the forest but also not in a stationary way, as the forest is alive and always moving I also wanted to show this. I took 3 images at different shutter speeds and ever so slight camera movement to achieve the final result.

This is the final result of my thoughts and planning while spending my first and not last night inside Boranup Forest.

Also now available as a fine art landscape print Boranup Forest Fine Art Print

A Winters Sunrise

First up thanks once again to all those nice people that have purchased a print from myself over the last month, its folks like you that keep this site alive and enable me to venture out and capture those moments we are sometimes in our busy lives just too busy to see.

My next up to blog is a simple image I took in the winter of 2010 between winter storms along the southern coastline of Western Australia. I chose a square composition for this shot as i had taken plenty of panoramics of the area and was looking for a more intimate shot of the location …

Now available on the website “A Winters Sunrise” in many sizes or email/call me for your custom size requirement …

Mono Lake California

While I have seen hundreds of images from Mono Lake and I took hundreds as well with the few hours I had there as well most I find have a similar tone unless shot in winter. I remember taking this well past sunset when a majority of the crowds had left for the day. With just a few photographers scattered around the shoreline we pretty much had the place to ourselves bar the howling coyotes in the distance.

I had taken several images before this series of images and was still looking for the right angle and time for the perfect shot. Mono Lake itself is a huge area and lies below sea level so the water is very salty and only really home to brine shrimp, flies and migratory birds that come to feed on the flies and shrimp ( yuk )

I am looking to having this printed at around 60-65 inches and mounted for my own home, maybe in my study or lounge …

The image can be printed up to around 70 inches in length and is available through the website page here : Mono Lake ….

Queensland Beautiful One Day Perfect The Next

Not much wrong with that saying. While I have visited Queensland many many times over the past 20 or so years it only has been in recent years I have taken my time and look at the photography before the vacation aspect of a Queensland break.

This was taken one evening on the way back from visiting a few waterfalls during the day and while the days shooting was not very good due to poor light, the evening was more of a success … A sunset overlooking the Australian Bush looking over towards the Pacific Ocean …

Lake Tahoe

Scouring over some old files to find something that could work with a tone that caught my attention earlier today. I am not sure how to describe it other than to say for me it looks like a silvery chocolate … Finding that right combination took a little time but after processing the image in color first then going to the black and white stage. Only after I was happy with the final black and white image did I start looking at colors that could match the tone I was looking for … Silvery Chocolate … Yeah I know not very technical, but thats what I get for the tone …

Enjoy …
