Scouring over some old files to find something that could work with a tone that caught my attention earlier today. I am not sure how to describe it other than to say for me it looks like a silvery chocolate … Finding that right combination took a little time but after processing the image in color first then going to the black and white stage. Only after I was happy with the final black and white image did I start looking at colors that could match the tone I was looking for … Silvery Chocolate … Yeah I know not very technical, but thats what I get for the tone …

Enjoy …

Spent the weekend down south around Dunsborough and met up with mr Mark “True North” Stothard for a shoot Saturday evening and again on Sunday morning … Well we will not talk about Sunday morning as the light was some of the worst there could have been. But saturday night was a little different. What promised to be an inspiring sunset ended up being good without being spectacular.

I have always liked the art by Michael R Nelson and I remember seeing his work for the first time round 1988 on my first trip to Hawaii. It was always a trip to see his paintings of marine life and the landscape in the same frame from water level, with the colors where so rich. While I was scoring over the tidal pools at Yallingup looking for a composition or two, his work came to mind, which lead me to look more at what was just a few feet from me and to see if I could use that with the sky … So I guess this australian landscape photography is inspired by a hawaiian painter …

It is always fun and exhilarating to get out there and challenge what you want to see but end up seeing as the light and conditions change, with the result sometimes and appreciation of the time spent not fully apparent till well after the time has passed …

Do you consider your photography art or just photography? Recently I read an article on a blog I visit often

Edward Mendes wrote about this subject matter here ( http://www.edwardmendesphotography.com/blog/?p=216 ) and its something I guess we ask ourselves from time to time in the same vein as being a professional or an amateur photographer/artist. While the term Artist has been reserved for those that either produce painted works or sculpture pieces do we as photographers professional or amateur consider ourselves artists?

While I consider my photography art others may not, I believe the term “Art” lies in the eyes of the beholder as I have seen many “Art” pieces I thought looked like twisted pieces of junk metal or paint just splattered all over a canvas. Do you need a “Art Degree” to understand what art is or can you find art in something you like regardless of what the next person thinks?

Edward makes a good point about the work and vision photographers put in their craft both on location and in post production, is that not the same as a Artist that see’s a scene either in nature or in their mind and then recreates it using paints of other materials like wood, iron or stone. Or is art a product of somesone’s passion to bring to others that same thing they see or hear as a vision first then bring to life via their chosen art filed, painting, acting, making music or taking a photograph? or maybe Art is more the intent to produce something rather than document something, we can all take a photo to document a location, while some will try and produce art through their knowledge and skills learnt.

What are your thoughts when one person takes a photograph then just sends off the raw file image to a 3rd party for post production, receiving the finished product back from someone that was never at the scene to understand the light, colours at the time ?

What are your thoughts, I would be interested to read them ?

Here is photograph/piece of Art from the Southwest Of Western Australia.

Another landscape image from the dunes of Mindarie Beach on the outskirts of Perth, Western Australia.

I really like the open spaces in summer of Mindarie Beach compared to most of the other beaches in and around Perth. The wide open sands and shallow waters make for very nice swimming spot north of Perth. In winter the beach erodes quite severely with many rocks exposed and dangerous swimming conditions. In summer it is well worth the trip north to what I think is the best beach within the Perth metropolitan area.

Enjoy the Sunset Over Mindarie Lanscape Image

Earlier this year I found myself spending 4 days inside the Yosemite, hiking trails waterfalls, big open meadows, rivers, creeks, ponds, snow covered lakes Yosemite has it all.

Below is an mage taken one evening driving out of the park. It is one of my favorite places in the park looking up both left and right at the granite cliffs is just amazing.
