Haleakala National Park at 10,023 feet is a not to far in the past active volcanic crater on the island of Maui, Hawaii. Producing numerous volcanic eruptions in the last 30,000 years with the most recent eruptions in the last 500 years ... Hawaiian folklore says the crater is home to the grandmother of demigod MÄui and according the hawaiian teachings she helped him capture the sun and force its slow journey across the sky to lengthen the day.
